How to apply the glass in a window

When you apply a glass in a window, you have to finish it with putty. For a window with wooden frames, use the ordinary linseed oil based on linseed oil; for metal frames, use a proper mass or acrylic mass, which is also suitable for wooden frames. You will also need a spatula for the dough. Use an old chisel to remove the old grease and a turquoise to remove the nails or the glazing springs that held the windows. Clean the recess with a brush and apply a primer.
Knead the putty until it is soft and pliable. Compress it into the recess of the frame. Apply the glass by pressing against the dough. Insert headless nails with the side of a chisel (or metal springs, if the frames are made of metal) to hold the glass. Position the nails at 25cm intervals so that 5mm of the frame protrudes.

Hold the dough in the palm of the hand and with the index finger and thumb, press it into the recess of the frame, forming a layer 3 to 6 mm thick. Press the glass against the dough and fix the nails. Apply dough around the glass. Use a spatula to flatten it and obtain a uniform bevel that covers the nails. In the corners, finish the miter.
Apply dough to the front face of the glass and smooth it with the spatula, forming a uniform bevel. Then use the knife to remove any excess grease from the inside of the window. Rub a damp brush over the dough after it has been smoothed and trimmed, which will help it adhere to the glass. Let the dough harden for about two weeks before painting it.

How to Replace Old Glazier Dough

Remove the putty all over with an old screwdriver or a chisel. Replace nails or springs that are damaged. Remove the powder with a brush, give a primer coat and apply the dough to the glass.

USEFUL ADVICE. If the putty gets on the spatula when you’re smoothing it, immerse it in water. Likewise, wetting your hands will prevent the putty from sticking to your fingers.
